MYSTERIES OF EASTER ISLAND (6 days / 5 nights)
November 11th - 16th, 2018

$1369 per person based on double occupancy

Easter Island (Rapa Nui in native language) is located in the Chilean Polynesia, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It has an area of approximately 163.6 km2 (1.016 miles), which makes it the largest island in insular Chile. The island has an estimated population of 5,000 inhabitants, concentrated in Hanga Roa, its main village and capital. There is no other inhabited place in the world such as Easter Island. Its unique location gives it authenticity and an aura of fascinating mystery. The island is one of the main attractions of Chile, its natural beauty, beaches, landscapes and volcanoes, ideal to know through excursions, horseback riding, hiking, bird watching, diving and photography. The prime attraction is its mysterious ancestral culture, with its huge volcanic stone statues called MOAIS, silent witnesses of Rapa Nui heritage.

Join in Mysteries and treasures of Easter Island on a small group basis.

A full day tour, along the Moai route, visiting Vaihu, a place which is surrounded by enormous statues which have fallen face down; the ruins of Akahanga, which are in their natural condition and where the first king of the island was buried. We will see the Rano Raraku volcano, and at the base of Poike, which is the most spectacular crater in the zone and where the former island-people carved the giant statues from the volcano’s quarry. Here we can see the different stages in the construction of the Moais, the biggest of which still remains at the base of the quarry and which is more than 20m long and weighs just under 200 tons. We carry on towards the beautiful beach of Anakena, where we will see Ahu Tongariki, which was the biggest of the 15 Moais on the island. They weighed an average of 50 tons and were destroyed by a tidal wave in 1960. Box lunch and free time to enjoy the warm sea waters. In the afternoon, return to the hotel.

Day 3 - ½ DAY RANO KAO VOLCANO/ORONGO (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. A half-day tour to Orongo, visiting the Rano Kao volcano, whose deep crater of lush vegetation contains a large fresh water lake covered with totora. From there, we will continue onto the Cultural Centre of Orongo, situated at the top of the crater at over 300m above sea level and where year after year the Bird Man or Tangata Manu ceremony takes place. We can see more than 100 petroglyphs which represent the Make-Make God and the Manutara seabird amongst others. Next, we will proceed to Ana Kai Tangata. Then we will visit Ahu Vinapu, where the interesting architectural style reminds you of the Inca’s handiwork. This is due to the perfection of the cuts and location of the stones. Return to the hotel.
